Terms & Conditions

On this page, you will find the terms and conditions that apply to all car rentals with CAR-AKAS.

 

These Terms and Conditions govern the rental agreement between you (the renter) and CAR-AKAS for the use of a rental vehicle. By renting a car from us, you agree to the following terms:

1. Driver’s Requirements

  • The driver must be at least 24 and no older than 75 years old.
  • Drivers aged 21–23 or over 75 may rent a vehicle with an additional charge of €25 per booking.
  • A valid driver’s license held for at least 12 months is required.
  • Non-EU license holders must also present an International Driving Permit (IDP).
  • Only drivers listed on the rental agreement are allowed to drive the vehicle.

2. Rental Period

  • The minimum rental period is one day (24 hours) for all vehicle categories.
  • After the 24-hour period, there is a 60-minute grace period.
  • A delay of up to 1 hour after the agreed return time is allowed free of charge.
  • After this 1-hour grace period, a late return fee of 20% of the daily rental rate will be charged for each additional hour.
  • The maximum late return fee for the same day will not exceed the cost of one extra rental day.

3. Booking Deposit & Cancellation

  • A 50% deposit is required to confirm your booking.
  • Cancellations are accepted:
    • Up to 10 days before the pick-up date during the high season (April – October).
    • Up to 1 month before the pick-up date during the low season (November – March).

  • No refund is guaranteed for cancellations beyond these periods.

  • Cancellations made less than one month before the rental start date may not be eligible for a refund.
  • After this 1-hour grace period, a late return fee of 20% of the daily rental rate will be charged for each additional hour.
  • The maximum late return fee for the same day will not exceed the cost of one extra rental day.

 

Important:
– In the event of a cancelled ferry or flight due to weather conditions, the rental day will still be charged unless the renter notifies CAR-AKAS at least 3 hours prior to the scheduled pick-up time.

4. Fuel Policy

  • The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as delivered (not necessarily full).

  • If returned with less fuel, refueling and fuel costs will be charged.

5. Insurance

  • Basic Third Party Liability insurance is included with all rentals.
  • Additional insurance options – Premium insurance are available for an extra fee 15€/day. More info about Premium Insurance 

  • Damages to the undercarriage, tires, and glass are not covered -on the standard insurance- unless the corresponding protection has been purchased.

6. Traffic Violations

  • The renter is fully responsible for any traffic or parking fines incurred during the rental period.
  • An administrative fee may apply for processing violations.

7. Vehicle Use Restrictions

  • Vehicles must not be used off-road, for racing, or for any illegal activity.
  • Transportation of the vehicle outside Ikaria is not permitted without prior written authorization.

8. Accidents and Damages

  • In case of an accident, the renter must contact CAR-AKAS immediately and fill out an accident report.
  • Failure to report an accident or damage may void insurance coverage.
  • Roadside Assistance Callouts. In cases where CAR-AKAS personnel are called out for roadside assistance due to customer negligence or misuse,  a service fee will apply. The amount will be calculated based on the travel distance and the nature of the call.

9. Out-of-Hours Delivery or Collection

  • A fee of €25.00 applies for pick-up or drop-off outside our regular operating hours.

Additional Location Charges:
– For vehicle pick-up from Evdilos Port, an extra fee of €15 applies.
– For vehicle return to Evdilos Port, an additional fee of €15 applies.
– Total additional charge for both pick-up and return at Evdilos Port: €30.

10. Vehicle Condition

  • Vehicles are checked before and after each rental.
  • Renters must return the car in the same condition it was received.

11. Payment Policy

  • To confirm your reservation, a deposit of 50% of the total rental amount is required.
  • The deposit can be paid either by credit/debit card (online) via Viva Wallet.
  • The remaining balance must be paid upon return of the vehicle, either in cash or by credit/debit card (Visa or Mastercard).

Any additional charges, such as:

    • Fuel refueling costs (if the vehicle is not returned with a full tank),
    • Late return fees,
    • Damage not covered by insurance,
    • Excessive cleaning due to unusual interior dirt,
    • Loss or damage of accessories (e.g. GPS, child seats),
    • Third driver fee: €5/day
      will be calculated and charged at the time of return.

12. Company Rights

  • CAR-AKAS reserves the right to refuse service, cancel reservations, or replace a booked vehicle with a similar category if necessary.
